Every single one of us is in a battle right now. Maybe it’s opposition to your goals, the heavy weight of discouragement, quiet spiritual attacks, health struggles, family issues, or a deep personal struggle. In these moments, it’s easy to retreat, to wait passively for things to change. But Christian faith is not a spectator sport. It is the active, persistent, and dependent engagement with life that invites God’s power into the fight. By examining life’s greatest victories—both from Scripture and from the world around us—we uncover four unbreakable principles of Faith in Action.
1. The Dual Discipline: Prayer and Purposeful Action
It is a false choice to believe we must either pray or act. God calls us to a dual discipline.
Think of the story in Exodus 17 as a foundational metaphor: two necessary roles. There was Action (Joshua fighting on the plain) and Faithful Dependence (Moses lifting his hands in prayer). Victory was contingent on both.
We see this perfected in Christ. The night before His greatest struggle, He was in Gethsemane, crying out to the Father, saying, “Not my will, but yours be done.” That was the ultimate act of surrender and dependence. But immediately following that prayer, He stood up and took the necessary action to accomplish His purpose.
The Application: True faith is active, not passive. You must show up to life’s battles—you must
study for the test, apply for the opportunity, or take the courageous step to initiate change—while simultaneously lifting your hands to surrender the outcome to God.
2. Victory is Forged in Dependence
When we lift our hands, we are not commanding God; we are acknowledging His sovereignty. We are surrendering control to Him and declaring that our strength will fail, but His never will. Victory isn’t about how hard you grind; it’s about on whom you depend. We often mistake effort for faith. Effort is vital, but true faith is trusting God’s timing and ability, even when the path is blurry, the results are slow, and the opposition feels overwhelming.
This shift in mindset—from believing victory relies on my effort to believing it relies on His power—is the core mindshift needed for sustained success.
3. The Power of Persistence (Endurance Without Giving Up)
What do you do when the battle drags on and you are bone-tired?
Just as the early heroes of faith eventually felt the physical weight of their commitment, we too experience fatigue. As a coach, I see so many young people who have the motivation but lack the endurance to persist through the second or third wave of a long-term challenge. Faith requires stubborn persistence. Endurance is not about being energetic all the time; it’s about maintaining your posture of prayer and action even when you feel empty. This is what separates a moment of hope from a life of faithful commitment. Keep your spiritual hands lifted, even if you need to lean on a few people to hold them up.
4. Community and Intercession: Your Healthiest System
Nobody gets through a real-life struggle alone.
When Christ walked to the cross, He had to rely on Simon of Cyrene to help carry the burden. He was constantly supported by a system of followers. This wasn’t weakness; it was a healthy reliance on the community God provided.
God rarely strengthens us in isolation. He uses friends, family, mentors, and spiritual partners to be our support system. He also often uses strangers—the unexpected person who offers a timely word of encouragement, the colleague who shares a similar struggle, or the person who shows a sudden, generous act of kindness. Accepting this support is not losing power—it is wisdom.
Your Next Step: Faith Is Active
My challenge to you is: Do not give in.
- Engage Life Actively: Commit today to pray, then commit to the next small, practical action step.
- Trust God Completely: Surrender the outcome and the timing to His perfect will.
- Accept Support: Reach out to your Aaron and Hur—your strongest, most faithful allies—and allow them to stand with you.
- Savor the Small Graces: Stop and acknowledge every moment of provision, strength, or peace. Don’t let the battle blind you to the daily goodness and momentum God is creating.
- Persist: The challenges may be long, but your faithful endurance ensures that you are standing in position when God delivers the victory.
- Remember, faith always has a dose of humility in it. When you succeed, don’t see it as proof that you’re better or more favored—it’s simply reflecting God’s dimension of grace.
- Don’t measure your progress by the other people’s paths—let Christ be your reference point, your guide, and your standard.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, my Anchor and Guide, thank You for the truth that You call us not merely to passive belief, but to active, living faith. Anchor my heart firmly in Your promises, reminding me constantly that trust in Your power demands corresponding action on my part. Strengthen my steps when I walk through uncertainty, confirming that my confidence rests not just in knowing who You are, but in acting upon that knowledge and faith; let my hands move when my heart believes in power and confidence, bringing Your promises into reality. Guide my actions and grant me the wisdom to be both gentle and strategic, so I may lean fully on Your word, move with courage, and then wait with the peace that comes from having already taken the obedient step. May my faith stay alive—active, growing, and forever manifested in courageous love and tangible works. In Christ Jesus I pray and believe, Amen.
Amen.
