(Understand the seasons. luke:12; 54-56)
We’ve heard it preached.
Faith the size of a mustard seed can move mountains.
Speak to the storm.
Declare the healing.
Call things that are not as though they were.
And yes — that is Scripture.
But what happens when the mountain doesn’t move?
What happens when you speak in faith, pray boldly, fast sincerely… and heaven stays quiet?
Most young believers aren’t prepared for that moment.
Because we are trained in victory language, but rarely in surrender language.
Yet both are biblical.
Both are powerful.
And both are necessary.
The Faith We Celebrate
In the Gospels, Jesus speaks directly to mountains (Matthew 17:20).
He commands storms (Mark 4:39).
He calls the dead out of graves (John 11:43).
That kind of faith inspires us. It’s bold. Visible. Immediate.
We love stories where:
- The cancer disappears.
- The exam is passed.
- The breakthrough comes.
- The impossible bends.
And sometimes, it happens exactly like that.
But that’s not the only dimension of faith.
The Faith We Avoid Talking About
In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus prayed:
“Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” (Matthew 26:39)
This wasn’t a lack of faith.
This was perfect alignment.
Jesus had the authority to calm storms. Yet He surrendered to the cross.
Why?
Because faith is not about controlling God. It is about trusting Him.
That is the shift many believers must eventually face.
Authority vs. Alignment
There is a season where God trains your authority.
You learn to pray boldly.
You learn to declare.
You see answers.
Your confidence grows.
But if faith stays there, it can slowly turn into subtle control:
“If I believe enough, it must happen.”
That thinking is dangerous.
Not because faith is wrong — but because it places outcomes above relationship.
Alignment is higher than authority.
Authority speaks.
Alignment listens first.
Jesus said in John 5:19 that He only did what He saw the Father doing.
His power flowed from submission, not independence.
Hebrews 11: The Full Picture of Faith
Hebrews 11 is often called the “Hall of Faith.”
It says some:
- Conquered kingdoms.
- Shut the mouths of lions.
- Escaped the edge of the sword.
But it also says others:
- Were imprisoned.
- Were persecuted.
- Were killed.
Same chapter. Same faith.
Different outcomes.
Faith is not validated by results. It is validated by trust.
If faith only works when you win, it isn’t faith — it’s a transaction.
Real faith says:
“Even if He does not.”
Just like the three teenage boys, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, in Daniel 3:18.
They believed God could deliver them.
But they also trusted Him if He didn’t. They trusted God for the outcome.
Total surrender to God strips you of control. That is maturity.
Why This Awakening Matters for Young People
Many young believers walk away from God because of unmet expectations.
They were told:
- Pray, and it will happen.
- Believe, and it will change.
- Declare, and it must shift.
But life introduces complexity.
A parent still dies.
A scholarship doesn’t come.
A relationship ends. A dream delays.
And suddenly faith feels broken.
But maybe it isn’t broken.
Maybe it’s growth. beyond commanding mountains.
It’s a different season.
Not louder.
Not dramatic.
But deeper.
It’s a scary season, full of fear, delay at the beginning, and confusion, but in your surrender, all these are traded for Peace and trust.
It’s a season of intense spiritual growth where the focus shifts from changing circumstances to aligning your heart. Instead of striving to make things happen, you choose alignment. You move in obedience. You flow with what God is doing — without complaining, without reacting emotionally, without cutting corners, without trying to manipulate outcomes.
Even your prayers change.
You stop praying, “Lord, change this.”
And begin praying, “Lord, align me.”
It becomes less about results and more about trust — living by faith, as Romans 1:17 reminds us of being right with God. This is total surrender. One step at a time. No rushing ahead. No forcing doors. Just steady trust.
That is why discerning your season matters.
Because if you try to fight in a season meant for surrender, you will exhaust yourself or even lose hope. But if you recognize the timing of God in your life, you will walk with peace — trusting Him completely as He leads you forward.
It’s the season where:
- You stop trying to force outcomes.
- You stop measuring God by results.
- You trust His will above your preference.
That season feels quieter. But it is deeper.
Surrender Is Not Weakness
Surrender is not giving up.
It is giving over.
It is saying:
“God, I know You can.
But I trust You even if You choose differently.”
“Lord, I feel scared, but help my unbelief. “
That is a strength.
Because surrender requires security.
Only someone confident in God’s goodness can release control.
Only someone grounded in identity can let go of the outcome.
And here’s the paradox:
When surrender becomes genuine, your authority becomes cleaner.
You are no longer praying from fear.
You are no longer declaring from anxiety.
You are no longer striving to prove your faith.
You are aligned.
And alignment carries a quiet power.
What a Season of Surrender Looks Like
It looks like:
- Praying honestly, without pretending, but in the identity of who you are in God’s eyes through Christ. Not commanding things to be.
- Accepting that God’s timeline is not yours.
- Trusting His character when circumstances confuse you.
- Continuing to obey even when results are unseen.
It looks like peace without a full explanation.
It looks like confidence without visible evidence.
It looks like resting while still being faithful.
The Higher Level of Faith
Mountain-moving faith is powerful.
But surrendered faith is unshakeable.
Mountain-moving faith changes circumstances.
Surrendered faith changes you.
And sometimes, the greatest miracle isn’t that the storm stops.
It’s that you remain steady in it.
Final Thought
You don’t graduate from bold faith. You grow into deeper faith.
There will be seasons to command.
There will be seasons to contend.
And there will be seasons to surrender.
All three belong in the life of a mature believer.
If you are in a season where the mountain hasn’t moved, don’t panic.
You may not be losing faith.
You may be stepping into the level beyond it.
And that level is not louder.
It is deeper.
And depth sustains you far longer than intensity ever will.
A Prayer for the Season of Surrender
Father,
You are able to move mountains.
You are powerful.
You are sovereign.
I have seen You answer.
I have seen You heal.
I have seen You break through.
But today, I release control.
If You move the mountain, I will praise You.
If You ask me to climb it, I will trust You. If You lead me through it, I will follow.
Teach me the faith that rests.
The faith that aligns.
The faith that says, “Not my will, but Yours.”
Guard my heart from striving.
Clean my motives.
Anchor me in Your presence, not just Your power.
I trust You — not only for what You do, but for who You are. In Jesus Christ’s authority, I pray
Amen.
