A Biblical Perspective for Christian Youth

The world you’re growing up in is loud—constantly shouting about identity, self-expression, and what it means to be “true to yourself.” Everywhere you turn, people are redefining gender, sex, and even truth itself. As a youth coach and mentor deeply rooted in God’s Word, I want to speak to you not just with conviction but with love and clarity.

You deserve answers—real ones, not the shifting opinions of culture. So let’s silence the noise and lean into the unchanging truth of Scripture, where God, your Creator, gives us peace, clarity, and purpose.

Understanding the Body for Personal Transformation

25 March 2024

1.  God Created Only Two Genders—Male and Female

Let’s start where everything begins:

“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” – Genesis 1:27

This isn’t an outdated verse—it’s the foundation of your identity. God didn’t leave your gender up for debate. He made you intentionally and wonderfully—either male or female—not both, not neither, and not interchangeable.

“And he( Jesus) answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female“ Mathew 19;4

Your biological sex is not a flaw or a mistake; it’s a divine masterpiece, crafted by a loving God who knows you better than you know yourself.

Truth: Gender is not a mental choice or a social construct. It’s a physical and spiritual truth designed by God Himself.

2.  Identity Confusion Isn’t New—It’s a Result of the Fall

Some say we’re finally “evolving” to understand gender better. But here’s what God says:

“For God is not a God of confusion but of peace…” – 1 Corinthians 14:33

Confusion over identity didn’t come from progress—it came from the Fall. When Adam and Eve sinned, humanity’s relationship with truth was broken. Ever since, the enemy has been twisting God’s design.

Back in the Garden, Satan planted doubt with the words, “Did God really say…?” And today, he’s still at it. Only now, the question sounds like:

“Did God really make you a boy?”  “Are you sure you’re not something else?”

Don’t fall for it.

Spiritual Warfare Alert: Identity confusion is not self-discovery; it’s a battle tactic meant to disconnect you from God’s truth.

3.  Feelings Are Real—But Not Always Right

Feelings can be intense. You might feel disconnected from your body or unsure about who you are. But here’s the hard truth:

“The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked: who can know it?” – Jeremiah 17:9

Yes, your emotions are real—but they aren’t always reliable. That’s why Scripture calls us to renew our minds (Romans 12:2), not to be ruled by emotions.

Challenge: Don’t elevate your feelings above God’s Word. Let your heart be shaped by Truth, not trends.

4.  Culture Is Loud—But God’s Voice Is Clear

Everywhere you look, culture is rewriting gender narratives. What used to be confusion is now celebrated. But God warned us about this path:

“Wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction…” – Matthew 7:13

“They called to Lot, ‘Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them.’ Genesis 19: 5…..What followed was the striking of blindness and the destruction of Sodom.

When everyone’s cheering for something, stop and ask: Does God cheer for this too?  Popularity doesn’t equal righteousness. God calls His children to be set apart—not to blend in, but to shine as lights in the darkness.

Courage Call: Be bold enough to walk in truth even when it’s unpopular.

5.  The Answer Isn’t in Redefinition—It’s in Redemption

Jesus didn’t die so we could redefine ourselves; He died so we could be restored—brought back to God’s original, beautiful design.

Struggling with your gender doesn’t make you broken beyond repair. It makes you human in need of grace—just like all of us. But healing won’t come from surgeries, pronouns, or labels. It comes from knowing the One who formed you in your mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13).

Real Freedom: You don’t need to redefine your identity—you need to rediscover it in Christ.

Role of the church

The Church has a great opportunity and responsibility in this generation—to reach those who feel unseen, confused, or rejected by the world. People grappling with gender identity and sexuality are not enemies; they are souls deeply loved by God and in need of truth. The Church must be a beacon of both clarity and compassion, creating a space where hard questions can be asked, the Gospel truth can be taught, and hearts can be led to Christ. The mission isn’t to fix people, but to lead them to the One who can transform hearts and restore identities. True Christian love tells the truth gently but clearly, calling people not just to be accepted, but to be redeemed and renewed by the power of the Gospel.

Here are some practical steps for those who want to retreat from gender confusion and embrace their God-given identity:

( I want to affirm that pursuing God’s truth in this area is a path to profound peace, freedom, and wholeness.)

1. Anchor Deeply in God’s Truth (Renew Your Mind):

  • Immerse Yourself in God’s Word:
This is your compass. Regularly read and meditate on scriptures that speak to creation (Genesis 1:27, Psalm 139:13-16), identity in Christ (Galatians 2:20, Ephesians 2:10), God’s peace (Philippians 4:7), and the transformation of the mind (Romans 12:2). Let God’s Word actively challenge and correct confusing thoughts.
  • Consistent, Honest Prayer:
Talk to God about everything you’re feeling and thinking. Be vulnerable about your confusion, your pain, your desires. Ask Him specifically for clarity, for His peace to fill your heart, and for His truth to illuminate your path. Pray for the Holy Spirit to guide you into all truth (John 16:13), and to guide you to the right mentors.

2. Seek Wise, Biblical Counsel and Community:

  • Find Trusted Christian Mentors:
Seek out older, biblically mature, and compassionate Christian adults (like a youth pastor, a trusted elder, or a mentor who you know stands firm on God’s Word concerning gender and identity). Share your struggles with them and ask for their prayer, wisdom, and guidance from a biblical perspective.
  • Engage with Biblically-Grounded Counseling:
Consider seeking professional Christian counseling specifically from therapists or counselors who operate from an unwavering biblical worldview regarding gender and identity. They can help you unpack the underlying emotional or psychological factors contributing to confusion in a way that aligns with God’s truth and offers practical strategies for healing and growth. As a counselor, I know the value of professional support that’s rooted in sound principles.
  • Connect with a Supportive Christian Community:
Find a church or youth group that explicitly teaches and affirms God’s design for gender as male and female, and provides a safe, loving space for you to grow in that truth without judgment. Being surrounded by a community that believes and lives out these truths is incredibly affirming and protective against the world’s confusion.

3. Actively Align Your Thoughts and Actions with God’s Design (Mindshift in Practice):

  • Identify and Challenge Confusing Thoughts:
When thoughts or feelings of gender confusion arise, practice identifying them. Then, actively challenge them by speaking God’s truth over yourself: “I am who God says I am. He created me male/female, and He doesn’t make mistakes.” This is spiritual warfare, and you have power in Christ to resist those deceptive whispers, fast if you can.
  • Limit Conflicting Influences:
Be intentional about the media you consume, the social circles you engage with, and the online content you follow. Try to distance yourself from those who negatively influence you. Minimize your exposure to messages that contradict biblical truths about gender and identity. This approach isn’t about isolation; it’s about safeguarding your mind and spirit from influences that create confusion. And later, you will get better friends for your new journey.
  • Embrace Your Biological Reality:
As you grow in understanding God’s design, begin to take small, intentional steps to embrace and appreciate your God-given biological sex. This might involve choosing to dress, speak, or engage in activities that align with your biological sex in a way that is true to who God made you to be, not based on societal stereotypes, but based on accepting God’s good design.

4. Focus on Your Identity in Christ and His Purpose:

  • Prioritize Your Relationship with Jesus:
Ultimately, your deepest identity is found not in your gender but in being a child of God, redeemed by Christ. Focus your energy on growing in your relationship with Him. The closer you draw to Jesus, the more clearly you will understand and embrace the truth of who you are.
  • Engage in God’s Calling:
Shift your focus from internal confusion to outward purpose. Get involved in serving others, using your gifts for God’s kingdom. Often, when we focus on loving God and serving others, our internal struggles diminish as we find our true calling and fulfillment in Him.

5. Practice Patience, Grace, and Perseverance:

  • It’s a Journey, Not a Race:
Retreating from deeply ingrained confusion takes time, patience, and persistent effort. There may be good days and challenging days. Extend grace to yourself, just as God extends grace to you.
  • God is Faithful:
Remember Philippians 1:6: “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.” God is faithful to finish the work He started in you. Trust His process and His perfect love.

Choosing to align with God’s truth in a world that promotes confusion is a courageous act of faith. But it’s a path that leads to genuine freedom, peace, and a clear, joyful identity in Christ.

Dear Christian Youth, Hear This Truth:

  • You are not a mistake.
  • You are not your feelings.
  • You are exactly who God says you are—fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14).

Don’t allow the world to blur what God has clearly defined. You are either male or female by God’s intentional design. You are profoundly loved, uniquely created on purpose, and unlike human inventions, your body was crafted by a perfect and all-wise Creator who makes no mistakes.

Final Thought: This Is a Spiritual Battle

Make no mistake: the debate around gender isn’t just cultural or medical—it’s spiritual warfare.

But you were born for such a time as this. God is raising a generation that doesn’t just go with the flow, but walks in the Spirit, lives by the truth, and carries His light into dark places.

So stand tall, walk in truth, and remember:

God’s design is never outdated. It’s eternal. And so is your identity in Him.

Let’s Talk

Prayer

Lord, thank You for creating me with purpose and love. Help me to see myself through Your truth, not the world’s confusion. Give me courage to walk in Your design and peace to rest in who You say I am.  In Jesus Christ name, Amen
